Atlas is a very special boy who has never known the life of a normal dog. He was free roaming with the other dogs and has never known what a collar feels like, what basic commands are, or what being in a normal routine is. When Atlas first arrived, he was so fearful of people that he did not want to be touched. Slowly, day by day, staff gained his trust (thanks to hot dogs and chicken!), and Atlas began to show his gentle, silly personality. Atlas will take time to get to know you, so you must be patient with him - your patience will pay off and soon you will have a best friend who will be at your side forever. As of March 14th, Atlas finally went for his very first walk - this is when we knew he is ready to find his forever home. Atlas would like a large fenced yard to hang out in, and although he would love daily walks, he is not a high energy dog and mainly prefers to lounge around with you. Atlas gets along with most other dogs given a slow introduction, but we think he would be best suited to a female dog friend or as an only dog. Atlas is gentle with people, but due to his fear, he must have an experienced, adult only guardian who can help him gain confidence in new situations. Atlas tends to shut down if he is overwhelmed, so lots of patience and positive reinforcement is key to helping him stay confident. Atlas is working on house training, but he has never known a regular routine before.
